Shaab el Mathaf

Shaab El Mathaf, meaning “The Museum Reef,” is one of the most visually diverse dive sites in the Marsa Alam area. The dive typically starts at Gotha Eschta, where four large coral pillars rise from the reef, creating a spectacular underwater landscape.

As you descend, you’ll find the pillars surrounded by extensive table corals and scattered coral blocks that provide shelter for a variety of reef fish. One of the site’s most remarkable features is the abundance of fan corals growing on the pillars. These are usually associated with deeper wall dives, making their presence here particularly impressive.

The reef’s intricate structure, combined with its rich coral coverage, gives the impression of exploring an underwater museum. Every direction reveals new formations, from hard coral gardens and swim-throughs to colorful soft corals and thriving marine life.
