Abu Kafan, meaning “The Deep One,” is a narrow and dramatic reef known for its steep walls that plunge to great depths. This site offers the opportunity to dive both the northern and southern sections of the reef. The northern plateau is particularly fascinating, with its drop-off adorned with beautiful black corals, soft corals, and gorgonian fan corals. As an outer reef, Abu Kafan is fully exposed to strong currents, which bring an array of marine life and vibrant coral species, creating a dynamic and colorful underwater environment.
Abu Kafan is a hotspot for encountering a variety of pelagic fish, including snappers and tuna. The reef is also home to colorful sea slugs, scorpionfish, and stonefish. Divers may spot a resident school of barracudas, turtles, and occasionally even grey sharks, making this site an exhilarating experience for those seeking diverse and exciting marine life.
